In-Pit Crushing & Conveying
FROM PIT TO TIP – LEVERAGING THE CAPABILITIES OF MOBILE CRUSHING AND CONVEYING
An In-Pit Crushing and Conveying (IPCC) system can provide mine operators with a significant return on investment by reducing overall operating costs, increasing site efficiencies, and improving environmental performance and staff safety.
As the mining industry moves towards a safer and more sustainable future, IPCC can play a key role in meeting these objectives.
A typical IPCC system is comprised of a primary crusher or sizer that is installed in-pit, near active areas of the mine. The crushing stations can be mobile or relocatable, and ensure the mined material is of a suitable size to be transported on a conveying system out of the mine.
For ore, primary crushed material is conveyed directly to the process plant, while waste rock or overburden is conveyed to a waste disposal area.
TNT’s Super Portable® conveyors provide crucial interfaces between mobile and fixed materials handling equipment, integrating both batched and continuous mining processes into a cohesive system.
A BOOST TO YOUR BOTTOM LINE
Having the right IPCC system in place to transport ore and waste material not only provides a safer and more sustainable solution, but it can also have a big impact on an operator’s bottom line. This is achieved through reduced personnel requirements and the associated infrastructure required to operate and maintain an IPCC system compared to operating a large truck fleet.
The high availability and reliability of the TNT Super Portable® conveying and stacking systems bring increased safety, productivity and efficiency to IPCC systems, while reducing the overall carbon footprint of mining operations.
KEY BENEFITS OF TNT’S IPCC SOLUTIONS
Dynamic by Design
IPCC solutions can accommodate both dynamic and selective mine plans while maintaining shovel or excavator efficiency.
Integrated System
Our Super Portable® conveyors interface between mobile and stationary equipment, linking batch material handling and continuous conveying systems as an alternate to truck and shovel.
Versatility
Our Super Portable® conveyors provide the flexibility and versatility to operate within mine pits and the complex topography in waste areas as an effective alternative to haul trucks.
Reliability
Multiple Super Portable® conveyors in a series have exceptional overall system availability, inherent system redundancy and maintainability, and can be more reliable than trucks.
Crushing and Sizing
We can advise, design and supply modular primary crushing stations, semi-mobile relocatable sizing or crushing units, with interfaces with fully mobile shovel fed sizing stations.
A PATHWAY TO CLEANER MINING OPERATIONS
Now more than ever, there is a growing focus on how mining activities impact the environment and what steps can be taken to minimize such impacts. At TNT, our aim is to be part of the solution.
Substituting haul trucks with an effective IPCC system can result in a host of environmental benefits – including reduced water usage, lower emissions and an overall reduction in carbon footprint – helping mine operators meet their sustainability targets.
IPCC SOLUTION KEY FEATURES
-
Super Portable® Conveyors
TNT’s Super Portable® conveyors can provide crucial interfaces between shovel fed mobile sizing stations and extending relocatable bench conveyors, as well as a variety of mobile and relocating conveying and stacking technologies. These mobile conveyors offer comparable flexibility and redundancy to haul trucks, with the ability to maintain frequently due to the advance and retreat system methodology. They have the versatility to negotiate inclined ramps providing mobile interfaces for out of pit conveyors, switchbacks and associated transfers.
Identical Super Portable® conveyors can be used in the pit for removing shovelled material and in the stacking line for stacking overburden. This minimizes the required spare components and reduces the warehousing needs of the mine maintenance.
-
Mobile Stacking Systems
Our Super Portable® stacking systems are capable of conveying and continuously stacking overburden, waste rock or dry tailings in both retreat and advance stacking configurations. Within these systems, the Ramp Portables® are designed to operate on an inclined grade up to a 10° slope and move up ramps and over crests. Each of these units has head and tail articulation for accurate transfers of material.
In the case of overburden and waste rock disposal, the Super Portable® stacking system offers a unique alternative to traditional spreader systems, with operating systems at 10,000 tph and designs capable of conveying and spreading up to 20,000 tph of primary crushed materials. The ease of operation, minimal ground preparation and availability of spare parts for multiple mobile conveyors in series – along with inherent system redundancy offered by Super Portable® systems – typically allows overburden and waste rock to moved more economically than with trucks or traditional spreader systems.

Out of Pit Conveyors
TNT has developed high capacity, fully modular out of pit conveyor designs able to operate on 20% steep ramps to effectively link the in-pit crushing systems to the process plant and out of pit waste spreading systems.
Our specialized designs are fully modular with standardized interchangeable semi-mobile modules that allow for multiple configurations of lengths, installed power and multiple loading points at benches.
The system minimizes site assembly and is deployable in various locations within a pit using a standard crawler transporter within a week. The system can extend bench by bench and interfaces with Super Portable® conveyors for additional overall IPCC system flexibility.
The system eliminates concrete works within the open pit mine by utilizing micro-pile technology and custom footings. The conveyor drive offers high power density for modularization and relocation with a fully integrated medium speed permanent magnet motor and planetary reducer that is compact, offering high efficiency through speed range.
A mobile crusher or sizer station operating in a multiple-bench open pit interfaces with our custom mobile Horizontal Conveyor with full-length receiving hopper. Material can then be conveyed via Ramp Super. Portable® conveyors via bench conveyors (each linked with Super Portable® technology) to the out of pit conveyor. The system then utilizes an overland conveyor or series of overland conveyors to convey ore to the processing plant or waste rock or overburden to the waste stacking area.
