Striving to promote a culture of workplace safety

Since 1997, TNT has delivered material handling systems to projects across 6 continents in a variety of countries with vastly different cultures, climatic conditions and regulatory requirements. All of this was achieved with zero Lost Time Incidents, including projects in challenging conditions in Siberia, Saudi Arabia, Northern Canada, West & Central Africa, Australia, and locations across South and Central America.

This is the result of our proactive approach to risk identification and risk management. We take both required and additional safety precautions from project outset through to commissioning and handover – including active participation in project HAZID and HAZOP sessions, Safety-in-Design reviews, ongoing risk assessments and training – to better protect our employees, clients and sub-contractors.

Safety is the foremost core value that is embraced and embodied in our culture and is reflected in all facets of our work. We believe that effective management and creating a culture that encourages and rewards adhering to high safety standards is critical to achieving project success.

Our team brings extensive, hands-on safety experience to projects, ensuring that all regulatory, best practice and client specified safety aspects are incorporated into our designs and project execution processes.

In addition to annual mine safety, project and site-specific training for our employees, TNT’s corporate Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) leadership and policies further reflect our commitment to prioritizing the safety of our people.

We strive to develop our locations to be a safe and health-conscious environment for our employees to work. Our attention to HSSE is directed by the principles on risk assessment, emergency preparedness, environmental awareness, accident prevention, regulatory compliance and performance measurements.

SAFETY IN DESIGN

The easiest and most cost-effective means of maximising personnel safety throughout the manufacture, delivery, installation, operation and maintenance of a conveyor system is to “engineer them out”.

Our team of professionals have decades of combined experience and work to incorporate key elements of safety during all phases of project execution. Additionally, they use this knowledge to pre-empt possible, unique operating challenges and hazards before they arise.

The ‘Safety in Design’ process starts on each project with an internal engineering review workshop to distribute project specific safety requirements and applicable design criteria, and to identify applicable codes and regulations.

At regular intervals during the project, critical design reviews are conducted in multi-disciplinary workshops, including our engineering, fabrication, procurement and construction teams.

At each level, evaluation of the design of safety guards, handrailing, stairs, emergency egress, electrical and automation, on-board safety instruments, equipment constructability, lifting and assembly plans, access for inspection and relevant maintenance works are undertaken to meet recognised standards of compliance.

The design review workshops are also used to identify and evaluate opportunities to improve the design of equipment for increased safety, ensuring it meets the highest safety standards and reducing the risks of onsite incidences.

WORKER WELLBEING

At TNT, our tight knit workplace culture equates to genuine care for our co-workers. When you work in an industry that includes international travel, aggressive project schedules and highly physical conditions during manufacturing or construction, the fatigue, stress and associated mental toll on personnel can often be pushed aside.

Managers and staff at every level provide an opportunity for people to raise any issues or concerns they might be experiencing at a given time.

We always remain open to feedback that can help make our workplace a better environment to work in. While we are fortunate to already possess a positive culture among our employees and construction partners, we strive for continuous improvement in this area.
