After more than a decade of operation, Tintaya added a heap leach/SX-EW operation to exploit an oxide mineralized resource, with a production capacity of 70M lb/yr of copper cathode. TNT supported this expansion by designing and supplying a stacking system, which comprised a rail-mounted tripper, 245’ horizontal bridge conveyor and 140’/160’ Radial Stacker, as well as conveyors, a belt feeder and related equipment at the crushing plant.

The custom-designed stacking system TNT supplied included a unique mobile bridge conveyor mounted on dual Caterpillar carbodies, which at the time was known as the “Crawler Bridge Conveyor.” This conveyor reached from the overland conveyor to the centerline of the pad and directly fed the Radial Stacker. The unique carbody-mounted design was to permit both lateral and linear movement, allowing for both stacking and equipment relocation.

This was the first portable conveyor to be mounted in this way on tracks instead of rubber tires, so that it was more agile and fully self-propelled (via all-track propulsion and an onboard generator). This concept was patented by TNT in 2004 (US patent 6,782,993 B2) as Super Portable® technology, which it subsequently applied to all its types of mobile conveyors to allow fully independent movement of each piece of mobile conveying equipment on a stacking pad.
